Christmas Giveaway #2: Go Go Gadget!

Just 9 days left 'til Christmas, can you believe it?  Perhaps it's part of the aging process, but all I've been doing this year is marveling at how quickly time has flown by!  Regardless, I'm looking forward to the holiday.  It's always a special, magical time, and even if it will be very meager for me and I'm concerned about my dad's health again (get well thoughts & prayers would be greatly appreciated, if you do that sort of thing), I still have a LOT for which to be grateful.  There's the new job, I might be able to keep my apartment (provided my landlord remains in the holiday spirit), and I have been shown incredible amounts of support & kindness from you fine folks.  You're truly amazing.

So I'm here to play Santa's Elf once more, to show how much I appreciate the greatest readers in the blogosphere.  My first Christmas Giveaway for the Get Spicy gift set was a lot of fun, and hopefully you'll all be just as excited about this one!  It's chock full of great goodies that should make any cooking aficionado a happy camper! I'm calling it my Go Go Gadget gift set.

That's right, my kitchen gadget-loving friends!  This little prize pack is made up entirely of super awesome gadgets to make your cooking experience just that much more fun.  They're all fabulous, high-end pieces that have come in the swag bags from some of the great foodie events I attended this year, so rest assured that they're of the highest quality.  But there are only so many duplicates one can have, especially when one's kitchen is approximately the size of a thumbtack and there's hardly any storage space.  So my loss is your gain!  Here's what you'll receive:

  • Sur La Table Collapsible Berry Colander
  • Citrus Reamer w/pit catcher from Joseph (awesome, but I already have 3 reamers)
  • OXO Good Grips Corn Peeler
  • Polka dot vinyl table runner (super cute, but too big for my table)
  • Sur La Table Cupcake Corer (for adding yummy fillings to your cupcakes!)
  • Bodum Brazil Cafetiere French Press (the piece de resistance of this set!)

This fabulous prize package is worth almost $100!  It's definitely a good one, so if you're into fun kitchen equipment, you won't want to miss out on this one!

To enter, please comment below with your 3 dream kitchen gadgets.  These are things that you don't already have, but have been dreaming about using for all of your cooking life!  I'm always wishing for stuff and love learning about other folks' wishes, too.  Particularly if they're kitchen-related!  Perhaps you want to get your hands on a microplane?  Or something simple like a tomato shark so you don't waste all that delicious, juicy tomato flesh?  Maybe you've always wanted the perfect candy thermometer and just haven't gotten your hands on one yet.  Whatever your dream kitchen gadgets are, I wanna know!  One lucky winner will be chosen at random to get this awesome set of swag.

But because Christmas is RIGHT around the corner, you must enter by 6pm Pacific Time on Sunday, December 20th!

As usual, bonus entries are available through Twitter.  To take advantage of this, tweet the following: "PGEW Christmas Giveaway #2: Win the Go Go Gadget prize pack from @PoorGrlEatsWell at http://poorgirleatswell.com! #giveaway".  Remember, tweets only count as bonus entries; you must comment below to be officially entered into the drawing.

So start commenting, folks!  The entries for the Get Spicy set were a ton of fun to read, so I'm sure these will be a blast, too!  Have fun!

  1. I just moved with just the bare necessities (clothing and cookbooks), so I need to replenish my kitchen gear. My most desired gadgets:

    mandolin slicer
badass food processor (Blendtec would be dandy)
    spice grinder

  2. Hi Kim!

My dream kitchen gadget list includes:

    - a bonafide espresso machine (although a french press is the next best thing ;)
    - a Vitamix blender
    - enough Le Creuset cookware to make a proper Christmas feast

Thanks again for the giveaways, you are far too generous - Merry Christmas!

  3. Right now is a really hard time in my life, and I really have the bare minimum of kitchen gadgets. In fact, my "gadgets" equal one chef's knife, a paring knife and a potato masher. It doesn't keep me from cooking, though! I just learned how to make do with what I have.
Something I've always wanted is one of those microplane/zester/small handheld graters. I don't know why, just saw someone on the Food Network use one to grate garlic and thought it was the best idea ever.
I enjoy baking and really, really covet silicone muffin/cupcake pans. Are those considered gadgets or hardware?
The only other thing keeping me up at night is not having a TofuXpress. It's this gadget that presses tofu so you don't have to use tons of paper towels, cans of beans, and a skillet to press with. It's about $50 and there is no way my budget will allow it's purchase anytime soon, but how I want one!

  4. My ultimate kitchen wish is a stand mixer, but in addition to being unable to afford one I don't have space for one :(. Also a nice mortar and pestle set and a decent rolling pin

  5. So many choices! I'd have to say that I'm jonesing for:
    1) a full-size food processor (I only have a small food chopper)
2)a dutch oven (Ideally a sweet Le Creuset)
3)a hand blender (I've been making soup more often and it can be a pain having to use the blender all the time).

I hope Santa reads this. Happy Holidays!

  6. Hmmm... I have a good set of gadgets at this point, but I'd love one of those 7 quart cast iron porcelain oblong cook pots for roasting beef and chicken.

Also, I wanted to say, I'm so glad I found your blog. We are a family on a budget and I am looking forward to tweaking your recipes to accommodate 6 people. :)

    My dream kitchen gadgets:

    - a reversible meat tenderizer
    - Kitchen Aid slicer/shredder attachment
    - a three-tiered oven rack

I know you said three, but I can't leave out the awesome Indoor Pressure Smoker!

With all of these gadgets my cooking days would be like heaven! :)

  11. My dreams are simple but dearly held: a knife sharp enough to cut into a winter squash without rebounding off into my hand, a decent food processor, and an electric frying pan. In a crazy alternate universe where we get to pick FOUR things, I'd also want a springerle rolling pin. :)

  12. My dream kitchen would have to have:
    - one of those fancy mixers with all the attachments (no more stuff flying out of the bowl from my hand mixer!)
    - an ice cream machine (just coz they're awesome)
    - a nice slow-cooker/crockpot (there are so many recipes that look so easy but require a crockpot so I haven't been able to try them :( )

Hope you have a wonderful weekend! :)

  13. Ohhh genie, genie, grant me my three wishes! 1: An off-set serrated knife to slice all those beautiful tomatoes from my garden. 2: A curved peeler (why oh why did it take so long for someone to invent this?). 3: Cooking twine. I can never seem to remember to actually buy any!!

  14. Broke, pre-wedding college student here...

--A really GOOD set of knives.
--Milk frother! (would go nicely with that french press!)
    --Keurig coffee maker.

Not a hand mixer though. I got TWO for Christmas last year. SAME EXACT MIXER.

  15. So funny, because I made my kitchen "wish list" today. It's super long, but one day I'll have it. My favorite three would be:

    Food processor
    Pasta roller
Garlic roaster (that thing you put a bulb of garlic in to roast it in the oven till it gets mushy)

If I had those three, I could be a Mario Batali. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  16. I would LOVE a Kitchen Aid Mixer, a pressuring canning system (cant remember the exact name), and the French Press in this giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  17. My dream kitchen gadgets would be a really nice set of knives, a skillet with a lid that can go in the oven and a good can opener.

  20. oh I have always wanted one of those processor/blender...its an all in one kinda thing...I have such a small kitchen so space is something valued. A good set of real knives and one of those big ole cutting boards.
Would have it now but with christmas coming and four kids, its not gonna happen for a long long time LOL

  21. I would love to have a potato ricer. I had one growing up, and haven't used one since moving out on my own(I hope that kinda counts!).
I've always wanted a mandolin slicer. I can never slice stuff as thin as my hubby can, and it frustrated me to no end!
I would love to have a juicer. That would be just swell.
Happy holidays, Kimberly, and everyone else!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Fun, fun, I would love but sadly can't afford right now a microplane and a Kitchen Aid mixer and although I would love one I'm scared silly of them but I would love a mandolin(I work in health care and know the dangers of them all too well)

    Best wishes for you dad!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I would love an instant-read thermometer, a Vitamix and an All-Clad saucepan. For the readers who want a dutch oven, Costco has a great one right now that is enamel-covered cast iron for only $50.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'd love to own the Platypus Platy Preserve Wine Preserver Bladder, a mandoline, and a citrus reamer!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have a baking business, so I actually have a lot of the things other people have mentioned here--I even have a Hobart mixer for mixing large batches of cookies! However, there are a couple of things that would be really nice--like a dishwasher that works (mine has been dead for almost a year, and it's a real pain not having it for all the baking pans)and a yogurt maker. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. A mandolin
    knife sharpener
    marble rolling pin

    ReplyDelete
  27. My dream gadgets:

A food processor (seriously, somehow don't have one)
    Something that strips corn easily
    Food dehydrator

    ReplyDelete
  28. Kitchen Aid mixer - not enough $$ or room right now
Oven that can hold a full size pizza stone
Cheese grater than can easily grate tons of cheese...there used to be a tupperware one that fit the bill.

    ReplyDelete
  29. First, I certainly hope that everything turns out OK with your Dad AND your apartment! Especially since it's the holiday season - awful to think about problems with either!

My three dream kitchen gadgets would have to be:

    1) A vacuum sealer since we buy in bulk a lot;
    2) A really good waffle iron - hard to find one on the thick side that is NOT for Belgian waffles. They're either too thin or Belgian. We had a great one when I was a kid, but once it bit the dust, we could never find a good replacement;
    3) An iPad or Little or something I could store all of my recipes on and have in the kitchen with me to cut down on the paper copies and storage.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 1. I would love a stand mixer. I love to bake but can't justify it based on lack of storage space right now.
    2. A keurig coffee pot (complete with a life time supply of k-cups!)
    3. A maid to clean up my kitchen messes (does that qualify as a gadget????)

    ReplyDelete
  31. #1 - A Chest Freezer. Probably too big to qualify as a gadget, but I would love the freedom to buy on sale/in bulk and store things.

    #2 - An immersion blender.

#3 - A canning kit. I really want to try my hand at it!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm still dreaming of a stand mixer!

    1. Red Kitchen-Aid Stand Mixer with the whip/dough hooks and sausage maker
    2. Really nice knife set without plastic handles

    My dream gadgets are:
    1) pasta roller
    2) vacuum food sealer

  41. I have been slowly getting most of my dream gadgets for a while now but I have a few left on the list. They aren't all that fancy but man do I need them.
    1. Salad Spinner (cause I want to dry chick peas for roasting and dry salads are good too)
    2. Cast Iron skillet
    3. Citrus juicer (cause mine broke and i miss it but a reamer will certainly do!)

    ReplyDelete
  42. My dream gadgets right now would be:

    1. A big crock pot
    2. A tough, professional food processor to replace my slowly dying little tiny one
    3. A juicer; those things are so much fun

(I also wouldn't mind having a dishwasher, but I suppose that'll have to wait until I'm out of this little apartment.)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ooo.. dream gadgets..

    1. A burr grinder. Granted, this is more 'coffee dream' than a 'kitchen dream,' but I totally have dreams about one day owning a glorious burr coffeebean grinder.

    2. A KitchenAid. Mostly because my best friend has one and he makes the most divine mashed potatoes in it. Yes, I want a KitchenAid solely on the impetus of the ability to make mashed potatoes.

    3. A really nice set of kitchen knives.

    ReplyDelete
  44. My dream kitchen gadgets:
    1. Hand/stick mixer/immersion blender
    2. Digital thermometer
    3. Pasta roller

    ReplyDelete
  45. My list is longer than I would like to admit but my current (this changes often) top three are:
    An Immersion Blender
A Kitchen-Aid Stand mixer (with attachments)
    and a Food Dehydrator

and I could go on and on :)

    http://literaryfoodie.blogspot.com/

    ReplyDelete
  46. My dream gadgets

    A Spice Grinder

A good thermometer for candy (so I can try my hand at making some)

and ... A full size food processor , preferably with a small inset bowl

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hmmm... I'd love a *hand blender*, and maybe a *food processor* (yes, I'm one of those out-of-date sorts that has never had one!) ... oh, and I often think I ought to break down and buy a *flour sifter*; every time I bake something that calls for the use of one I think, Oh snap!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ah, I'd love for a LeCreuset stockpot/crockpot, a food procesor, and either a cheese grater or Vitamix blender.

    ReplyDelete
  49. A deep fries would be awesome, but I've been straying away due to the messiness. Also would love a dehydrator to make some awesome jerky. And lastly would really enjoy a bread maker. Merry Christmas.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'd love a blender for one, an amazing mandolin slicer, and a complete set of measuring tools.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm obsessed with a waffle maker, milk frother, and a pastry blender.

    ReplyDelete
  52. A really good sharp knife, food processor, and a mortar and pestle.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Le Creuset cookware, a pasta maker and a turkey roaster.

    ReplyDelete
  54. an ice cream maker,
    a double boiler
and one of those things that both cores and peels apples

    ReplyDelete
  55. Osterizer (blender), Fruit dryer, Combination espresso/cappuccino/tea machine. All top quality of course. ricosburn@aol.com

    ReplyDelete
  56. I want a food procesor, an ice cream maker and magic bullet for smoothies!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Dream kitchen gadgets...

A grain mill. I bake bread like crazy and grind much of my own flours, flax seeds, etc.

An espresso machine. And not just any, a fabulous super deluxe Gaggia Titanium

A really nice, non-rusting spring-form pie pan. I make lots of cheesecake but my pan is cheapy, it rusts and leaks.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I love your blog. I'm more of a reader than a commenter, but I couldn't resist entering your giveaway. Reading everyone's wishes was fun! I found myself thinking that I could use many of the things other people wanted. But my top three kitchen gadgets would be:

#1 - a gravy separator. I'm so tired of not being able to get all of the fat out of pan juices for making stocks and gravy.

#2 - a stackable cooling rack. Tiny counter space makes baking cookies not as fun as it should be.

#3 - kitchen shears. I make a lot of soup, especially in the winter. Easily cutting the backbone out of chicken to save for stock would be so great.

Thanks for doing the giveaways. Just participating is fun! Tam

    ReplyDelete
  59. There's such thing as a corn slicer?! (wiping a tear) I don't have any of those things!
I wish I had a food processor so that my babies (and husband) would not literally whine and cry every time I (cook) chop onions. Also it would save me sooo much time. The food processor needs to have a mandolin slicer, or I need one of those, too. Finally, I've always wanted one of those flippy Belgian waffle makers. Oh and a crepe griddle (am I allowed to add an extra?).
Please dear random number generator, pick me ohhh pleeeeze pick me!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Apple peeler/corer (so I could make apple pie more often)

Cooling rack (not sure why I don't have one except that my sons bent my old one up when they were little)

Bread maker (as long as I'm dreaming, I'll dream big)

    ReplyDelete
  61. My dream gadgets are what seem to be staples in other peoples kitchens that I just haven't ever purchased:

    Kitchen Aid mixer
Coffee Grinder (currently, I just get instant coffee)
A Stock Pot. My family raises our own chickens and it is super difficult to fit the whole thing in a normal pot.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Why is it that the things you need the most, you always forget to buy? I can stand in the kitchen section of ANY store, and completely not remember what I need. LOL It's crazy but I've needed these things forever, and don't have them yet!

A gravy separator - for fat free gravy and stock.

A stackable cooling rack - too little counter space makes cookie baking not as fun as it should be.

Kitchen shears - I make a lot of soup, and this will make saving the backs out of poultry for stock so much easier.

    This was fun! Thanks Tam

    ReplyDelete
  63. A kitchen mixer, food processor, and robotic chef lol

    ReplyDelete
  64. I would like a mandolin slicer, a microplane, and some of those colorful LeCreuset spatulas.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Ahh, this is easy. I lust after many, many kitchen gadgets.

    1) A stand mixer.
    2) Immersion blender
    3) Cookware that I can also put in the oven.

The last two are on my Christmas wishlist, so maybe they won't be faraway dreams for long. ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm a big baker, so these are things to make my baking easier

    1. A stand mixer - it doesn't need to be a KitchenAid or anything fancy, but it would make icing/bread/most things a lot easier (and less messy!) to make
    2. A cookie press - I make a lot of cookies, and would love to be able to bake them with beautiful designs like the gourmet bakeries
    3. A cake carrier - not just any carrier, but I make a very tall coconut-lime cake, the carrier would need to be tall enough to hold it

  69. 1. Vitamix
    2. Mandoline
    3. Two coffee grinders - one for coffee, one for spices.

  70. Oh my gosh, you guys! These are SO much fun to read! I totally agree w/a lot of you on the stand mixer; too bad my kitchen's so small that the only place to put one of those is on top of my head! So many of your dream gadgets/equipment are the same as the ones on my list. Here's hopin' Santa pays attention one of these days!

Now, keep 'em comin'! I'm having fun getting to know you all better this way. :)

  71. dream kitchen gadgets

    1. one of those kitchen aide mixers. The expensive ones that you can do all your cakes and stuff

    2. A blender or juicer. Not a cheap one that will fall apart.

    3. One of those knives they sell with a lifetime guarantee that can cut thru anything. The free paring knives are great, but the main knife itself would be awesome.

    3.

  72. Hmmmm... I'm sure I posted earlier, but it didn't appear.

    My dreams?

    Bread machine
Apple peeler-corer (because I love apple pie, but peeling alllll those apples...)

And I can't remember the 3rd one I said before.

    Sharper knives?
    A robot cook?
    Really nice pans?

What I want most is a whole new kitchen with cupboard doors that shut all the way and drawers that are still on their tracks.

I have a KitchenAid stand mixer - I got it on ebay a few years ago for less than half price and then had to go buy more attachments. I don't really bake enough to justify its existence, but when I do bake it's fabulous.

  73. I have been wanting a mezzaluna forever!

I've been wanting a slow cooker for a while, I'm just never sure if I really, really want one, or if I'm just hearing too many good things about 'em.

A good indoor grill. I've burned through 2 George Foreman grills, but they were too much of a mess to deal with. I'm still pondering a proper panini machine, it seems like it might be better for what I do!

    ReplyDelete
  74. 1. my food processor died so I am dreaming of a hard core can-do-anything one!

    2. a potato ricer. all the recipes i have been wanting to try lately seem to call for one

    ReplyDelete
  77. a BIGGER kitchen...does that count...lol

    a food processor
    a juicer
and an ice cream maker to make frozen custard in
and the space for them all...

    and a dishwasher that's not called mama ; )
    (please tell santa)

  78. Two smaller wants and a big one:

    1. Expandable cooling racks, so I can bake more than a dozen cookies at a time. I have an island, but no way to efficiently cool cookies on it!

    2. Eco friendly cutting boards. I've heard great things about cork cutting boards (sustainable and anti-bacterial).

    3. A new, energy efficient dishwasher. My old one is original to the house and has washed its last dish!

    ReplyDelete
  79. I would dearly love a really really good food processor, good quality knives. Does granite counters count so i don't have to use cutting boards and such?

  83. I'm always dreaming of new gadgets for my kitchen! Here are my top 3 right now:

A decent blender. A friend recently suggested vitamix. I checked into how much they are. That's not going to happen...

    A citrus juicer

Storage jars my measuring cups easily fit into.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Picking three is so hard...I guess I would say a panini press, ice cream machine and a corn peeler like the one in your give-away!

    ReplyDelete
  85. I would love a vita-mix, a mandolin, and a George Foreman grill

    ReplyDelete
  86. Many years ago I worked at a small independent cookie store (this was before Mrs. Fields was popular). I learned to LOVE making dough by weighing the ingredients, and mixing in a commercial grade Hobart.

    1) I would love to have a balance scale! I've looked at prices on eBay from time to time, but they were always too rich for my blood.

    2) A Hobart mixer.

For #3, something I have but never have enough of are wooden spoons. I'm totally jonsing for the beautiful colored laminated wooden spoons that are so popular in the stores right now.

  87. Hmm...narrowing down to 3 is difficult! :) I'd love a nice Dutch Oven, some popover tins and for sure a BlendTec blender! :)

    1. a Kitchen-Aid Artisan Design | Premium 2-coat High Gloss Finish, Elegant 5 Qt. Glass Bowl, Tilt-Head Stand Mixer in electric blue.
    2. a Vitamix 5200 Deluxe
    3. Le Creuset 5 1/2 Quart Round French Oven in the Dijon or Kiwi color.

If these 3 items or even 1 showed up under my xmas tree I would rescind my "don;t ever buy me household stuff for xmas" order that I gave my husband when we were married. WHY??? cause these items are special...sigh...I want them soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

  90. Does a double oven count as a gadget?? Because I am dying for that! But, if we're talking just about gadgets, I'd love a garlic press, a good pizza cutter, and this amazing knife for cutting cheese!

  92. I haven't had a mixer for over 10 years when I burned out my last one making divinity for Christmas. This is definitely on the top of my list. I've also been wanting a pasta maker so I can make vegan ravioli with my mock ricotta cheese recipe made from macadamia nuts and tofu. And finally a Silpat; I'm running into more and more recipes calling for this magical, non-stick surface mat.

  93. oh, I would love a
    good milk frother
do I have to put three? I have much of the dream requests and find that I couldn't live without my great knives that a chef friend gave to me. I don't use the vitamix all that often. If I could only have three things it would be:
knife set(professional quality makes so much difference)
cast iron dutch oven (can be used for so many things)
the spatula/spoon from pampered chef (are they still around, because their vegetable peeler was without a doubt the VERY BEST!)
    love your blog

  97. Fingers crossed that your landlord has some Christmas spirit Kimberly!

I'd love a set of decent cookware instead of the set that I have now that was a wedding gift for my parents (38 years old lol)

    A stand mixer

    Set of proffessional knives

  98. Gadgets I would like to have are:

A mallet-type device to flatten meat or poultry, e.g chicken breasts. Currently I use a rubber mallet I have in the garage, but I'm assuming there is a better device for cooking.

A lemon juice squeezer--they are sold at the Coop. You put a half a lemon on it and squeeze the top and bottom together.

A good silicone spatula/turner that fits in my kitchen drawer. I have seen several good ones but they are designed is such a way as to be difficult to fit in my utensil drawer.
